Orchards in Schools

Have you ever heard of Orchards in Schools?

Belfast School is lucky enough to have been involved in this programme.
On Monday we planted 4 pear trees, 4 apple trees, 4 plum trees and finally 2 feijoa trees - such an amazing variety.
Room 21 planted these trees with the guidance of Mary from Orchard Schools.
We can't wait to get fruits from there trees.
What do you think we should make with them?

    1. Kia ora Damien,
Thank you for commenting on our class blog. How do you think we could improve our blog?
Room 21 were lucky enough to be randomly chosen to plant these tree.
Next time we could invite some other children from other rooms to help us plant some flowers and vegetables! What do you think we should plant?
I am actually unsure of the variety but if you want to go out to the garden they have got a tag on them.
      Have a lovely day,
      Miss McCombie

    1. Kia ora Amani,
I also had some much fun, I loved learning about the trees and learning that we need to put flowers underneath to help with pollination.
Thank you for all your help with the digging and moving the compost - you were a super help!
What vegetables do you think we should group in the garden?
Remember to call me by my teacher name: Miss McCombie

    1. Kia ora Oliver,
Please take time to read the blurb above as it tells you about what we planted.
I definitely think an apple pie will be good on the cards - what else could we make?
We should take photos of the progression of the fruit trees - it would be great to see how they evolve.
      Have a lovely day,
      Miss McCombie

It is such a great experience that we were involved in. What was your favourite part of the day?
Mrs Winton runs the gardening club at lunchtimes so head along to help out. You could chat to Mrs Winton about what she thinks we should grow.

You can still be part of the growing and maintaining of the garden. Would you like to do that?
      Thanks,
